moda vivendi

I'm just talking to myself. We do that sometimes, me and myself.

Obligatory Halloween Post

I can feel an incredibly annoying, self-pitying post coming on, so I thought I’d take a minute to acknowledge the costumes I saw this weekend.

  • Gumby and Pokey.  Who didn’t love those cartoons when we were little?
  • Lots of cartoon characters.  Quailman from Doug.  Tons of Marios and Luigis.  Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.  Diaper and all.
  • Cupcakes.  Damn girls stole my costume from last year.
  • Top Guns.  Guys and girls.
  • Troll Dolls.  These girls went all out.  They gelled (or somehow got) their hair straight up and dyed it crazy colors.
  • Katy Perry when she was on SNL with the Elmo shirt.
  • Cowgirls.  Probably the smartest idea..jeans and a plaid shirt and boots.  Did I mention it snowed here this weekend??
  • 70s “adult film” directors, complete with purple leisure suits and white shoes.
  • And the obligatory cats, Little Red Riding Hoods, Cinderellas, etc.

There’s more, but, uh, it didn’t all get documented in my brain properly.

#WhiteGirlProblems and other hashtag fun

Let’s see how many 140-character statements we can make about #WhiteGirlProblems.  Yay Twitter for blogging inspiration.

  • Sephora doesn’t sell MAC cosmetics
  • This latte isn’t non-fat
  • These Uggs make my feet look ridiculous but they’re comfy
  • I want to be Adele’s best friend
  • What did I drink last night?
  • Oops, I did it again
  • I’ll talk to you again when your bo-ho, feather-wearing phase is over
  • Remember when it only took a few drinks to get drunk? Me neither
  • Remember what it was like to actually eat? Me neither
  • The problem with my boyfriend is that he’s poor
  • I don’t know whether I love you or hate you
  • I need a fat friend to make me look skinny when we go out
  • This celery tastes fattening
  • How many calories are in a skinny vanilla latte?

Awkward/Awesome Thursdays

We’re gonna start with Awesome today:

  • Woke up to a text from the best group member ever (who conveniently works at Starbucks…) “Hey ladies, coffee is on me this morning.”  Win.
  • Penguins game tonight!  I love me some hockey boys.  (Too bad I’ll have a group meeting.  Can we get cable in the ad lab, please?!)

  • I turned the shower on this morning and was greeted with a small drizzle of arctic water.  Same in the sink.
  • We got kicked out of class by our prof.  Told to take a minute and finish our coffee outside the room.  So the three of us had to chug coffee.  20 oz. of hot coffee, that is.
  • My jacked up toe.  Specifically the nail…since the race, well, it’s seen better days.
  • Massive exam next Thursday for the anti-coffee class…freaking out already.
  • Also in that class is a group paper (that’s in stages of disrepair, kinda like my foot).  I hit the space bar twice between sentences.  Most everyone else uses a single space.  I keep forgetting to single space and keep having to double check every sentence I write.  Gahh!

Maybe I’ll do nail polish Wednesdays…

You know it, I have no time to write, which means we’re doing Nail Polish Wednesdays.  Over the summer I started to do this on Fridays, but maybe it’ll be Wednesdays now.  Or whenever I have no time/inspiration and I’ve made it a goal to write one post every day for the month of October.

This was my polish of choice over the weekend.

Essie Velvet Voyeur and OPI Glow Up Already (glitter)

I mentioned a while back that Essie changed the  name of Velvet Voyeur to Velvet Voyage, but you can still find in stores.  Same shade, different name.  Guess some people took offense to the use of “voyeur”?  Still lame.

Holiday pies?

So, y’all know how I was making pies for Affogato this summer, right?  You don’t?!  Shame, shame on you.  Anyway, it’s a little venture I started and my mom took it over now that I’m at school.  And she is doing holiday pies.  So you should get some pies for the holidays if you’re in the Pittsburgh area.  We’re doing a lot of different flavors, almost anything you want, but definitely the holiday favorites (like pumpkin and apple) and you should think about it because they’re delicious and only $15.

Homemade cherry pie with fresh cherries

I mean, who wouldn’t want a tasty, homemade (that you didn’t have to make yourself) pie for the holidays?  More info coming soon.

Things I’m looking forward to the most

  • Sitting in a coffee shop and being all warm and cozy while it’s snowing–Yes, I know,  I live and die for summer, but sometimes there’s something so satisfying about being in a warm place when it’s cold outside.  Don’t judge.
  • Being able to use candles again–Too many years in flame-free dorms.  We burn candles even in the summer, so don’t be saying this is a fall/winter thing because it so is not.
  • Being done with mind-numbing outlines–I just finished my last outline as an undergrad ever.  Possibly my last outline of my life (I mean, really, I don’t want to be an English teacher to even though one of my majors is English, I won’t go to grad school for that and advertising really doesn’t demand higher degrees, though I’ll probably be pressured into it at some point if I know my family at all).
  • Seeing my “little sister”–I’m really an only child, but my mom’s dog gets better treatment than I do.  So she’s like like little spoiled sister that everyone likes and I’m just kinda there.

I mean, how can you not miss that face

  • Getting my own place–Again, too many years in a dorm.
  • Driving my car–It’s the little things in life.
  • Dressing up to go to work–Even if it’s just going back to the spa while I look for a “real” job.  I kinda miss wearing my sweater dresses and patterned tights and boots to work like I did last winter.  Something about that just makes me happy.  Again, don’t judge.
  • Going to hockey games–Pittsburgh Penguins and Consol Energy Center, get ready, Imma comin’.
  • Starbucks’ winter drinks–If you’ve never put a splash of peppermint flavor in your coffee, go do it now.  Run.
  • Seeing my friends back home and my family and just being, well, home.

Yep, that’s about it.  Even though summer is my season, I am feeling really nostalgic for last winter break.  And something about that is really making me look forward to December 17th and being home for good and never having to come back to State College unless I really want to.

I just wanna be done and graduated.  And home.
